More than half of the world uses social media
The world’s population is now approximately 8 billion with more than half of it living in urban areas. Out of that 8 billion, there are about 4.62 billion users of social media. While the idea of social media only appeared on the surface in the late 1990s, now there are tons of social media platforms to choose from with billions of daily active users.
Over the past ten years, social media users have grown even more quickly than internet users. The overall number today of approximatelly 4.62 billion is up from 1.48 billion in 2012, which indicates that the number of social media users has increased at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 12.0% over the past ten years.
