Microsoft joins the Web3 race – Crypto wallet on the way!

Microsoft is reportedly building its own crypto wallet, integrated inside of the company's web browser Edge.

Software researcher and Twitter user Albacore claims to have discovered evidence that a Microsoft cryptocurrency wallet is in the making.

Evidence of Microsoft crypto wallet

The cryptocurrency wallet will be reportedly built within Microsoft’s Edge browser and will be non-custodial, meaning that the company will not have access to your private keys. Classic settings of a Web3 wallet.

Screenshots suggest that the wallet will allow users to subscribe to a crypto news feed, explore decentralized applications (dApps), and make crypto purchases via Coinbase and MoonPay.

The cryptocurrency wallet functionality has been coded in, but is being kept secret from users until the feature’s formal announcement and activation. The Microsoft team won’t probably be happy that people found out about this before an official announcement.

Big announcement on the way?

As the wallet is apparently currently in development, the cryptocurrency wallet function shouldn’t be too far away from being revealed. While Microsoft wants to be a part of current trends, there are tons of other crypto wallets, so it may be difficult to advertise.

“Not really sure how to feel about this kind of thing being baked into the default browser,” Albacore stated in a tweet.

However, a built-in Web3 wallet in an internet browser may not be bad at all. The wallet will still be prone to hacks as it’s connected to the internet, however, its security might be much better than some basic crypto wallets. But that’s just about to be confirmed in the future.

This is undoubtedly a great move for crypto as it shows that mainstream adoption is actually happening. If one of the largest companies in the world (Microsoft) decides to build a crypto wallet, it must be really important.
